THE BUDGET OFFICE OF THE PARLIAMENT TO BECOME THE OBSERVER MEMBER OF THE EU INDEPENDENT FISCAL INSTITUTIONS NETWORK

The Conference on the Capacity Building of the Independent Fiscal Institutions has been held within the Georgian Parliament and the Dutch Finance Ministry twinning program.

The Chair of the Network of EU IFIs, Richard van Zwol addressed the attendees, speaking about the decision to invite the Parliamentary Budget Office to the IFIs with the observer status.

“The Network of the EU Independent Fiscal Institutions is a key body in terms of sharing the experience and practice. The Parliamentary Budget Office of Georgia proved to be in full compliance with the activity undertaken by the IFIs countries. The Budget Office develops a conclusion on the draft budget, alternative macroeconomic forecasts, ensures the monitoring of the fiscal regulations and issues other analytical documents. Hence, I am delighted to underline that our organization made a decision to accept the Budget Office with the observer status. I believe, the hereof step will serve as a huge advantage for the Budget Office for further development and capacity building. I would like to congratulate the Budget Office on this novelty and welcome it to our organization”, - he stated.

The hereof decision was estimated as a significant chance by the Head of the Budget Office, Andria Gvidiani.

According to him, the membership of IFIs will allow the Budget Office to get further enhanced through sharing the best practice.

“I am glad to hear about the decision on inviting the Budget Office to the EU IFIs. The said organization is an imperative body in terms of the cooperation of the independent fiscal institutions and sharing the experience of the member states and sharing the international practice on parliamentary oversight is of utmost importance for the Budget Office. In this regard, the decision made by the IFIs will definitely facilitate the Budget Office to progress further to a new stage. I would like to thank the organization members for their decision”, - he noted.
